Senator Ajayi Boroffice is the incumbent senator representing Ondo North Senatorial District of Ondo State. In this interview with PETER DADA, he speaks about the forthcoming general elections
You were being alleged to have done little or nothing in the eight years of your representation of Ondo North Senatorial District. What is your reaction ?
I think whoever says that has not been honest and fair, we have had five senators before me, and there is nothing they can point to that they brought to Ondo State. I can tell you that in Ondo North I have done numerous things
What are those things you have done ?
I have built a hospital which has been annexed to the Federal Medical Centre, Owo, I have built a mini- hospital here. I am building a biofuel plant in Ajowa. I am building a cashew processing plant in Ikakumo. I have built three skill acquisition centres, one in Ikaramu, one in Oka and one in Ifon. Meanwhile we are now concentrating on leather technology and already they are producing shoes that are of international standard. I have built a cashew processing plant in Ikakumo. We have a biotech centre here in Oka. We have built five garri processing plants. We have been able to attract federal presence to my senatorial district. There is a National Laboratory on Science and Technology being built in Akungba. We have Chemical Technology Centre being built in Ikare. We have Aerospace Development Centre now here in Oka. There is a Ceramic Processing Unit in Epinmi. I have built many classrooms in Ikaro, Oka, Ikare at Agboriki and other places. So it is not something we can count; apart from the solar street light and boreholes, I have brought transformers to improve light distribution in Ondo North Senatorial District. So I believe I have done very well far more than any other person have done. You see, senate is a for a serious minded people, it is not for activism.
Are you not worried that the emergence of the Action Alliance that it could not be a threat to your winning the election ?
It may be a thorn in the flesh but it can not change anything. Our people know where they are going, all our people are very loyal to our party. Those who are in the AA are the people who were compelled to go there, but average Akoko, Owo and Ose people are very loyal to the All Progressives Congress and nothing can take them away from our party. So AA is not a problem to us .
But it was alleged that Governor Rotimi Akeredolu is not supporting you, that he has been sponsoring the AA candidate, what is your reaction to that?
The governor has not said that, I have not heard that from him ?
Is his body language supporting your aspiration?
See, if God is on your side, who is a governor? What God had ordained will surely come to pass. So it doesn’t matter whether governor supports me or not , if God backs me nobody can stop me.
Have you been able to campaign in Owo, the home town of the governor?
I am going to have my campaign in Owo on Monday .
Are you not bothered that some loyalists of the governor can disrupt the programme?
I don’t think so. An average of Owo man is a peaceful man. An avarage Owo man loves Senator Boroffice. We are starting a project in Owo town. We want to build a skill acquisition centre, we have met the Olowo of Owo, Oba Olateru-Olagbegi to give us a plot of land, the contract has been awarded, the contractors will move to the site. So Owo people love us except some people that claim to be loyal to the governor that are making noise in Owo. For our campaign, we are going to adequately involve the law enforcement agencies. However my message to our people is for them to come out and vote on the day of the election, for President Muhammadu Buhari and for me as senator from Ondo North and all the APC’s House of Representatives and state house of assembly candidates. After voting they should make sure their votes count.
