Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, national leader of the ruling party All Progressive Congress (APC), has reportedly turned down a callby the party’s leadership to head President Muhammadu Buhari‘s national campaign for the 2019 presidential elections in all states of the federation, Daily Independent reports.
According to a credible party source, Tinubu, who said he fully supports the re-election of President Buhari, said he would do everything possible to ensure the reelection of Buhari, but wants to concentrate on the south-west region
The Daily Independent newspaper had previously reported that Tinubu was gradually regaining his “lost territories” in the southwest with the support of comrade Adams Oshiomhole, the party national president.
While he has Lagos and Osun in his kitten, Tinubu is working to consolidate his strength in the states of Ogun, Ondo, Ekiti and Oyo.
Naija News understands that Tinubu played a crucial role in the re-election of President Buhari in 2015 However, shortly after the elections, however, he lost favor with the president’s men, called the Abuja boys.
Oluremi, the wife of Tinubu, a senator representing the central senatorial district of Lagos, admitted in an interview that his party had been removed from office by the party after helping him win the election.
“He was campaigning, I did too. We were running three campaigns in my house. And for him to be trashed like that? But I saw somebody who has love for this country”, he said.
According to our source, “Tinubu has politely rejected the request to lead President Muhammadu Buhari’s campaign for the 2019 elections. Rather he has chosen to focus his attention more on the South-West.
“We don’t really know the reason for this but we have feelers that he seems unsure of what the fate of APC may be in the presidential elections and as such wants to secure his base in the South-West first.
