The Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, and the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, have debunked media reports that former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has been dumped by party chiefs, ahead of the 2019 Presidential election.
The opposition party revealed that media reports stating that its leadership had connived with some Governors on its platform to deny Atiku Abubakar the Presidential ticket, were untrue.
The PDP “is open to all Nigerians aspiring for various elective offices, including the Presidency”, the party’s Spokesperson, Kola Ologbondiyan, said in a Press statement.
Ologbondiyan stated that the Governors discussed issues of national importance, and did not at any time consider taking any partisan position to the detriment of any of its members, contrary to some media reports.
Also speaking, the Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, pointed out that he did not at any time endorse anyone over Atiku Abubakar.
Speaking through his Media Aide, Lere Olayinka, he stated: “As I am talking to you, Governor Ayo Fayose is a Presidential aspirant. So, how can a Presidential aspirant be supporting another aspirant?”
Olayinka further stated that the media should play down on its speculation for now, adding that, there is still enough time before the 2019 elections.
